Scars of Survivors Bear Witness: “Even after 89 Years, I Cannot Forget a Single Day”
On April 3, the Qingming memorial ceremony for the deceased of the Nanjing Massacre was held in front of the Memorial Hall’s Wall of Tears. Survivors, descendants, and youth representatives stood solemnly to honor compatriots who perished 89 years ago.
Liu Minsheng, a 92-year-old survivor, was only three years old at the time. During the massacre, his father was forcibly taken by Japanese soldiers, and he himself, as a young child, was tragically stabbed with a bayonet, leaving a scar on his right leg that remains visible to this day. He said, “I cannot forget a single day; I must pass the history on to future generations.”

Xia Shuqin, aged 97, tearfully demanded to knowwhy Japan refuses to acknowledge history. Of her family of nine, seven perished; only she and her four-year-old sister miraculously survived. She was stabbed three times by Japanese soldiers.

Descendants of survivors, including Huang Rui, and historical memory inheritors such as Wang Lian, took turns reciting poetry to express their remembrance. Since 2022, a total of 38 individuals have been awarded the Certificate of Historical Memory Inheritor for the Nanjing Massacre.
Chen Xinyi, a middle school student, said that young people must use their energy to transmit history and plant the seeds of peace in more hearts.
