Happy 90th Birthday to Ms Xia Shu-qin
May 5th, 2019, Nanjing Massacre survivor Ms Xia Shuqin turned 90 years old. Staff members from the Memorial Hall made a special visit to her home and celebrated the birthday.
During the Massacre, John Rabe from Germany in his journals and John Magee from America in his photolog both recorded the tragic sight of her family being murdered by Japanese soldiers.
Till today, it has been 82 years since Ms Xia barely escaped with her younger sister from the bayonet of Japanese aggressors. Now she has 20 children and grandchildren and lives a life with four generations under one roof.
Staff members from the Memorial Hall prepared her with a birthday cake and sang the happy birthday song together. Ms Xia said happily that she never thought she could live to 90 years old since she once almost died, and this is the first time that she celebrates a birthday like this.
According to the granddaughter of Ms Xia Shuqin, she buys to cook every day and has a good appetite. She can finish a bowl of rice in each meal. Usually during the day, the family accompanies her to exercise and she goes to sleep early and she enjoys a good quality of sleep too.
Best wishes to Ms Xia – a good health and forever happiness!
