“The Japanese bullets disabled me in the  right leg.”

On the 11 of the 11th month of lunar calendar 1937, the Japanese army occupied Nanjing. One day, I went to wash diapers on the bank of the Bailuzhou River. The Japanese soldiers on the wall saw me and they shot at me several times. I was hit in the right leg. Athough it was not fatal ,the wound was bleeding so much that I couldn't move. Later my husband Peng Zhaoxi carried me home. From then on, my right leg was maimed, and I could only walk with the help of a crutch all my life.
