A few days ago, the Publicity Department of the CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee led and organized the selection of cases from 2018 Nanjing Socialist Core Values Innovative Education Practices. The ritualized educational event “Let Memories Illuminate Future” of our Memorial was awarded as "Top 10 Innovative Cases" !

On September 19, the award ceremony and achievement sharing meeting were held in the Jiangnan Examination Hall. The representatives of our Memorial explained how it helps cultivate and practice the Socialist Core Values with practical cases.

Representatives of the winning units of the "Top 10 Innovative Cases" received the award on the stage

What is this ritualized educational event “Let Memories Illuminate Future”?

1. Constant Operation

Every opening day at 8:30 a.m., the bell of Jiangdongmen rang in the memorial square on time. Prior appointment or the first 12 audience representatives of the day are to attend the ringing ceremony of the bell of peace. A total of 13 bells are rung by 12 people, signifying that history is remembered and peace is cherished.

Every holiday, we organize art volunteers to play music of remembrance and peace for visitors to create an immrsive and interactive visiting atmosphere.

We planned in advance such ritualized commemorative activities as Walk for Peace in the Nanjing Security Zone, International Peace Assembly, and Candlelight for Vigil, taking into account such important time points as Qingming (Tomb-Sweeping Day), Commemorative Day of the Anti-Japanese War, Surrender Day of Japanese Army and National Memorial Day.

2. Specified Education

We have developed a ritualized education template for teenagers and launched the ritualized educational event “Let Memories Illuminate Future” with a total of more than 300 sessions in 2018.

"Little Purple Grass Research Class" was developed into more than 10 courses. Combining visits of intangible cultural heritage project exhibitions, this program is aimed at promoting the growth of young people's patriotism during the visit through a series of themes such as "peace" and "gratitude".

We send Spring Festival couplets and blessings to survivors of the Nanjing Massacre; during the Mid-Autumn Festival we invite the survivor’s family to watch the performance and make the moon cake together; we organize memory inheritance activities around the second and third generations of the survivors... We pass on this memory from generation to generation.

We have established the Purple Grass International Peace School, offering education for more than 3,000 young students from 70 countries including the United States, Norway and Australia.

We held the Purple Grass International Peace Summer Camp, inviting the descendants of international friends who helped refugees during the Nanjing Massacre to visit Nanjing, so as to enhance their understanding of the city and the recognition of their deeds.

3. Popularized Dissemination

We use the exhibition, space, cultural and creative products, assorted books, voluntary services, and commemorative activities to develop popularized dissemination.

The Memorial Hall is not only an important position to remember the history, but also an important window to spread peace. In order to strengthen the popularization of peaceful communication, we have built official websites in the Chinese, English and Japanese languages, and established a communication matrix composed of accounts on Weibo, WeChat, Tik Tok and Toutiao. Every day, "Ringing the Bell of Jiangdongmen" is published in video form on the official Weibo account of Memorial.

We have designed a symbol for Purple Grass. In recent years, this symbol has been all over the streets and lanes of Nanjing, and some We-Media has even photographed this symbol in airports abroad.

In the future, the Memorial will collaborate with history, sociology, communication, psychology, education and other fields to present more and better ritualized education activities.
