From the days of her black locks to the time of white hair, in December 2023, the 78-year-old Japanese friend Okado Takako, with her back slightly bent, journeyed to Nanjing, China, to participate in the Tenth National Memorial Ceremony for the Nanjing MassacreVictims, and the Candlelight Vigil and International Peace Rally. Since the 1980s, upon learning about the peace flower, the Zijin Grass, she dedicated ten years to composing a choral suite titled “The Story of Zijin Grass”, and later founded the Japanese Zijin Grass Choir, singing its tale across Japan. In 2001, she led over 200 members of the choir to Nanjing for the first time to perform, offering apologies to the people of Nanjing.Over the past two decades, she has lost count of how many times she has visited China, but she always remembers to sing from the bottom of her heart, carrying with her a sincere apology to the Nanjing Massacrevictims. She has devoted half of her lifetime to holding hundreds of concerts in the United States, Japan, China, and other countries. Her aim is to use her singing as a reminder for people to learn from history, cherish peace, and prevent the recurrence of wars in the lives of future generations. In this issue of the newsletter, we share the story of this Japanese friend with you. Please watch the video.
