Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things
The Memorial Hall drew large crowds of visitors during the summer vacation this year. Volunteers dressed in a purple vest and Memorial Hall staff members worked in the blazing sun to provide services for the visitors. 67-year-old Li Guorong was among them. Li joined the volunteer team of the Memorial Hall in 2019 and volunteered at the Memorial Hall four times each month over the past more than four years. So far, she has served hundreds of thousands of visitors and earned up to 1,500 volunteer service hours. Many visitors say her interpretation is pleasant to the ear.
Fu Yunsheng, 67 years old, is a retired teacher. Back in 2019, Fu signed up to be a Zijin Cao volunteer when he learned that the Memorial Hall was recruiting social volunteers. The visitors were moved when he recounted in a loud and clear voice how excited Nanjing residents were when they heard the verdict of the Japanese war criminals trials in Nanjing, a scene recorded in Imprint · Nanjing in 1937, an audiobook that narrates the stories behind historical items related to the Nanjing Massacre. Fu and some other volunteers recorded the book.
