The Memorial Hall Celebrates the 100th Birthday of Nanjing Massacre Survivors on Double Ninth Festival
October 4th is also the Double Ninth Festival in Chinese lunar calendar. The Memorial Hall held the 2022 Caring Events for Survivors of the Nanjing Massacre "Remembering History, Guarding Witnesses". Nine survivors of the Nanjing Massacre, including Wang Yilong, Xue Yujuan, Xie Guiying, Ge Daorong, Ai Yiying, Xia Shuqin, Lu Hongcai, Fang Suxia and Ma Tingbao, as well as their descendants, and staff of the Memorial Hall, gathered together. This year, the nominal age of Wang Yilong and Xue Yujuan becomes 100, and the Memorial Hall held a collective birthday party for them. The elderlies wore traditional Chinese garments, listened to the Nanjing Baiju Opera, painted the Longevity Peaches and talked about the changes over the years. In such festive atmosphere, everyone feels warm and happy.
The average age of the survivors at the event was 92. They are healthy, with good sight and hearing.Zhou Feng, Director of the Memorial Hall, and Qin Minqun, Vice President of the Nanjing Aid Association for the Victims of Atrocities by Japanese Invaders, sent caring message and birthday wishes to the elderlies on behalf of the Memorial Hall and the Association. The two centenarians, Wang Yilong and Xue Yujuan, received a birthday album made especially for them by the Memorial Hall. The album contains a collection of photos of the elderly participating in the activities of the Memorial Hall, as well as photos of them playing with their grandchildren and enjoying the happiness of their old age, all of which are important moments in their lives.
Wang Yilong and Xue Yujuan cut the birthday cake on behalf of the survivors. Wang Yilong's daughter Wang Jinqin said, "My father's generation has experienced the hardships of war, and he is delighted to see so many people celebrating their birthday and those of other survivors. This cake is a token of appreciation from the MemorialHall, and as a family member, I am very touched and grateful to the Memorial Hall."
