The Reading Room in Memory of Iris Chang in Central San Francisco
The WWII Pacific War Memorial Hall in downtown San Franciscohas recently opened a new reading room. Located on the third floor, the reading room is named "The Power of One". "This was IrisChang’s lifelong belief and a reflection of her life in practice," said her mother, Yingying Chang.
Iris Chang (1968-2004) was a writer who made the truth about the Nanjing Massacre known to the Western society. In 1997, her book The Rape of Nanking: The Forgotten Holocaust of World War II, written in English, was published and became a sensation in the West. She was also one of the key discoverers of the John Rabe's Diary.
