From June 16 to 18, the staff of the Memorial Hall went to Chengmai County, Hainan Province to visit Li Meijin and Wang Zhifeng, two elderly survivors of the Japanese army’s "comfort women" system. This was the seventh consecutive year that the Memorial Hall had visited Hainan. Seven years ago, there were seven survivors of the "comfort women" system in Hainan. Now there are only two.

Li Meijin is 96 years old. At the age of 16, she was forced to work as a "comfort woman" for the Japanese soldiers, doing hard labor by day and suffering humiliation and torture by night. At the slightest slack, she would be hit by the Japanese soldiers on the back of her head with the end of a gun, and her waist was beaten so hard that she still had a dull pain on a cloudy day. Li lives with her son now.

Wang Zhifeng's house was not far from Li Meijin's. She was subjected to violence by the Japanese soldiers, which greatly affected the hearing of her left ear. Now 95, her legs are swollen and she can only walk slowly. She likes to eat the fruitsgrown in her garden. She asked her son to pick a few and sent them to the visiting staff.
