Yellow Roses Forever: To Bernhard Sindberg on His 111th Birthday
February 19 marked the 111th anniversary of the birth of Bernhard Sindberg, a Danish friend. The Memorial Hall made posters to pay tribute to our international friend. During the Nanjing Massacre, Sindberg and his German friend Karl Günther set up the Kiangnan Cement Factory, the largest refugee camp outside Nanjing, and rescued nearly 20,000 refugees.
In 2004, a Danish horticulturist spent four years cultivating a yellow rose that symbolized courage, faith and remembrance, which was called the “Forever Nanjing · Sindberg Yellow Roses”.
