Zhu Zaiqiang, a Survivor of the Nanjing Massacre Died
On February 24, Zhu Zaiqiang, a survivor of the Nanjing Massacre died at the age of 90. There are only 60 registered living survivors.
In December 1937 when Nanjing fell, Zhu Zaiqiang's family of ten people fled from home. Only 5 years old, Zhu saw a large number of people killed by the Japanese in the paddy fields near Jiangdong Gate. "We could do nothing but step on their bodies, went down from the ridge and climbed up to another. I had no choice. I could not walk by the path where the Japanese soldiers occupied.
Zhu finally survived the massacre. After the Memorial Hall was completed and opened, he often came to participate in activities. In recent years, he has taught "a lesson before going abroad" to students who prepared to study abroad, telling his own experiences. He told them: Never forget the sufferings of the country and of the nation.
