On the eve of the Chinese New Year of the Tiger, the Memorial Hall launched "Welcome Spring and Send Blessings—2022 Chinese New Year Greetings for Nanjing Massacre Survivors". Director Zhou Feng, deputy director Ling Xi and deputy director Shi Pengcheng led the team, visitedGe Daorong, Ai Yiying, Pu Yeliang and other survivors.
In Ge Daorong’s home, Zhou Feng asked his health in detail. "TheMemorial Hall andNanjing Aid Association for the Victims of Atrocities byJapanese Invaders are your homes," he said. “Contact us if you have any difficulties. You must take care of yourself." As a historical witness, Ge had written more than 100,000 words to record his and his family's experiences and bound them into a book for his descendants.
In Ai Yiying’s home, speaking of the past, the nanny tearfully told Ling Xi that four young men from her family, along with an uncle-in-law and a son of her father’s aunt were killed by the Japanese soldiers. The Ai family left only 4 women with children to live a difficult life, known as “Widows from Ai". Talking about the present life, Ai Yiying happily said, "My life now bears no worries. I have three vegetable dishes and one meat dish for lunch every day in the community canteen and it only costs me 3 yuan. I would play cards with my neighbors in the afternoon."
Pu Yeliang, approaching 100 years old, was confined to a wheelchair because of his handicap. Shi Pengcheng said to him: "Grandpa, you should take care of yourself! When you are 100 years old, we will come and bring you a birthday cake to celebrate your birthday!"
