A few days ago, The State Council Information Office (SCIO) introduced 8th batch of China's Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level, which include 762 entities. Six of them are located in Nanjing, and the former site of a "comfort women" station by Japanese invaders of China at Liji Lane is listed.

Back in June 2014, the site was listed at the level of the Nanjing city, and this March, it was listed the 8th batch of Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the Provincial Level of Jiangsu.

The address of the site is at No.2-18 Liji Lane of Qinhuai District. At present, 8 masonry-and-wood-structured buildings from the period of the Republic of China are completely preserved.

In December 1937, after the Japanese occupation of Nanjing, building No.2 of Liji Lane was converted into “Dongyun Comfort Station”, where most of the Korean war-time sex slaves (“Comfort Women”) were at. Building No.18 was converted into one named “Guxianglou”, where most of the Japanese “Comfort Women” were at.

The site was first discovered by Professor Gao Xing-zu of Nanjing University. After

the detailed research of experts and scholars, it was confirmed that the site is the former Japanese invaders’ “comfort station”.

In 2014, the Nanjing Municipal Government initiated the protection project of the site, and the repair construction started in May 2015. December 1 of that year, the branch of our Memorial – the Nanjing Comfort Stations Liji Lane Site Museum opened to the public.

The Museum has received nearly 150,000 visitors from home and abroad since its opening, and provided guided and explained tours for nearly 1000 times, including teams and visitors from Korea, Japan, the United States, Britain and Taiwan.

At present, the Museum is a comparatively complete and large "comfort women" themed relic memorial in China. It fully demonstrates the implementation of the "comfort women" system and the crimes committed by the invading Japanese army. Every year, a large number of visitors come to visit and exchange ideas. As a national historical and cultural site, the Museum will play a further role in telling the historical facts.
