On September 24^th, Academic Committee of Chinese Academy of History was established in Beijing. Professor Zhang Sheng was elected to be a member of the Committee. Zhang Sheng is dean of School of History of Nanjing University, professor of Center for the History of Republican China, researcher of Institute of Nanjing Massacre History and International Peace and chairman of Research Society of History of Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders.

Academic Committee of Chinese Academy of History undertakes responsibilities of orchestrating researches of Chinese history, planning and reviewing major research projects and instructing compilation of history textbooks. It also plays a key role in promoting the development of history in China, discipline construction, talent cultivation, project review and appraisal of research achievements.  

Wang Jingqing, vice president of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and deputy secretary of CPC branch of the Academy, attended the inaugural conference of Academic Committee and Academic Advisory Committee of Chinese Academy of History. He pointed out that the establishment marked an exciting milestone along the journey of prosperous development of Chinese history in the new era. Chinese History ushered in Academic Committee and Academic Advisory Committee as think tanks for discipline integration, innovative development and pursuit of future.

He also said that the two Committees should play a part in pushing Chinese history to stick to right political, theoretical and scientific directions and in promoting prosperous development of Chinese history in the new era. Three key tasks for the Committees were orchestrating research forces of Chinese History, facilitating cross-discipline integration and benefiting the country practically with the science of history. And the Committees should focus on connecting China and foreign countries, linking social science and natural science, working out new methods for the prosperity of Chinese history and marching towards the new frontier of Chinese history in the new era.
