On June 27, 2019, at the award ceremony of "Honorary Citizen of Nanjing" held in Nanjing, Mr. Frederick Arment, President of International Cities of Peace recommended by our memorial hall, was awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen of Nanjing" together with Jong-hun Kim, Frank Meyer, Andrew Chi-Chih Yao, Ryad Chellali and Pedro Chan.

The new six honorary citizens are from the United States, France, Germany, the republic of Korea and Hong Kong, China. Mayor of Nanjing Lan Shaomin met with some of them and presented them with certificates.

In September 2017, with the unremitting efforts of the Research Institute of Nanjing Massacre History & International Peace and the Institute of Peace Department at Nanjing University, Nanjing became the 169th international city of peace and the first city in China to join the International Cities of Peace.

As President of the International Cities of Peace, Mr. Frederick Arment has been committed to maintaining security, prosperity and development among nations, international cities and international organizations.

Mayor Lan said that each honorary citizen had made their own contributions to the economic and social development of Nanjing. They were not only old friends of Nanjing, but also important links for Nanjing to promote opening-up, cooperation and international friendly exchanges. He hoped that they would continue their bonds with Nanjing and care about Nanjing.

It is reported that the title of "Honorary Citizen of Nanjing" has been awarded since 1994. This year, the standing committee of Nanjing Municipal People's Congress legislated the conferment of "Honorary Citizen of Nanjing", and the regulations on the conferment of the honor were officially implemented on June 5, 2019.

The honor has been awarded more widely to all foreigners, overseas Chinese, compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and people from all other Chinese cities who have made outstanding contributions to the city's economic and social development, scientific and technological progress, external exchanges and cooperation, and the city's international influence.
