On December 13, 1937, after occupying Nanjing, the Japanese troops flagrantly violated international law and carried out mass killings, rape, looting, and arson, committing the Nanjing Massacre, an atrocity of unparalleled brutality that shocked both China and the world. One-third of Nanjing's buildings were destroyed, vast amounts of property were looted, and tens of thousands of women and children were ravaged and slaughtered. According to the verdict of the Chinese Military Tribunal for War Crimes after the war, the total number of victims of the Nanjing Massacre exceeded 300,000. The Nanjing Massacre stands as one of the most representative examples of the countless atrocities committed by the Japanese army during the war of aggression against China, a horrific crime against humanity. This exhibition aims to commemorate the painful history of the Nanjing Massacre and to convey the values of remembering history and cherishing peace.
